The Peninsula Visiting Nurse
Service for Christian Scientists, Inc. (PVNS) serves patients in both
San Mateo and Santa Clara Counties. It has been in operation for
nearly forty (40) years, and is currently the only Visiting Nurse
Service in the Peninsula. It is a non-profit organization governed by
a five (5) member board, comprised of local branch church members.
PVNS is a round-the-clock
service. Edie Verstift is usually on duty on Mondays through
Fridays, and Aicha Langel serves Saturdays and Sundays. Either nurse is available for
one to two hours at a time, per visit from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. There is a minimum charge of
$40.00 per hour.
Emergency visits between 6 p.m. and 8 a.m. are charged at $60 per
hour. Benevolence is willingly given, if required. If more nursing care is
needed than can be given in two hours, private duty nurses can be
referred, or check the nurses listed in the Christian Science
Journal..
PVNS requires that all patients
with nursing needs be working with a Journal-listed practitioner on
the days the nurse visits. This rule can be waived for a non-nursing
need, such as a manicure or pedicure.
